Why such why high ping times?

Hello,

Doing some testing of devices which are physically in the same building and normally on the same LAN. If I ping the IP addresses allocated from ZT, the pings are somewhat very high? Some in excess of 300ms?

18 packets transmitted, 18 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 60.005/173.642/345.244/89.119 ms

This to me implies all traffic is actually being routed device ↔ internet ↔ overseas (USA) ↔ internet ↔ other device ? is that correct? My understanding was it would divert traffic direct?
