I’m new to self hosting Private Root Servers but whilst researching the topic, there was a warning discouraging their use:
Using moons is now discouraged. Please contact us for advice and alternatives.
This is me contacting for advice and alternatives… why is it discouraged and what are the alternatives?
I would be very interested in the answer to this also; one of the strengths of ZeroTier vs. alternatives is the capability of running it (if needed) on a completely air-gapped network, by running private roots / moons and providing clients a hint of how to reach one in the local configuration.
Is this no longer going to be a supported use case?
@peterM Did you read this topic?
Also I’m facing a problem, that is maybe related:
iOS + iMac (Apple) devices can not connect to windows PCs.
Some topics talk about, it has to do with the latest version (v1.14? I think)
Self hosted moon server:
win ↔ win: OK
andorid ↔ win: OK
Apple ↔ win: nothing works. No ping, no VNC, no RDP …
Warning:
Self-hosted root servers do not work with standard ZeroTier One
APPs on any mobile phones!
Also, you have to manually replace planet
file on each windows + Linux PC.
