hi there. i have zerotier 1.10.1 (x86) installed on my qnap (TVS-671, QTS 5.2.3) and on my parents QNAP on the other side of town (TS-469pro, 4.3.4).
I was using Tailscale, but the speeds were appauling (1.0MB/s max on a 1gbit internet line with direct connections and low cpu utililisation), so i thought lets try ZeroTier.
Zerotier Install went went. both nodes come up on the managment page and both authorised just fine. both received Private IP addresses on the 172.24.x.x range and zerotier-cli status/listnetworks both showed ONLINE / OK PRIVATE [network name] [private IP] respectively. so far so good!
the tunnel is shown on both nodes in teh routing table:
node1:
172.24.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 ztks5ufvez
node2:
172.24.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 ztks5ufvez
…However, i dont get any pings or traffic across the private network at all. TX increments on the adapter, but RX does not:
ztks5ufvez Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr F6:1B:43:F3:4E:40
inet addr:172.24.39.39 Bcast:172.24.255.255 Mask:255.255.0.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:2800 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:701 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:73669 (71.9 KiB)
i’ve checked there is no Firewall running on either device. QUfirewall is installed, but ive turned it off for now.
any other ideas about how i can get pings/traffic working? i feel like im very close here, but just need a few ideas.
how is the tunnel adapter bound to the real adapter on the qnap? does it pick the adapter with the default gateway or does it just pick eth0 (my qnap has 4 onboard interfaces, but my Default gateway is current on a 2.5gb usb adapter (eth5)). maybe it could be that? just a guess mind you.
any tips appriciated.
thanks guys.
tony.
