No, it’s not always safer & faster to use your own moon. Moons are just user-run instances of our Root servers. Your machines will still communicate with our root servers with or without a moon configured.
As of right now, iOS and Android do not support moons and we currently don’t have plans to implement support for them as moons will be deprecated in 2.0
