Zerotier service will not start and creates lots of wer dumps each time

Windows 10
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19043.1645]

1.8.9 Zero Tier

WIndbg shows it is a lot of null pointer errors in the crash dumps.
Its not a privilege issue - running command line crashes as well rather than the service

thanks

Anyone any ideas ?

We’ve never seen such behavior. This is also the first report we’ve heard. Have it running on several windows machines just fine with no crashes

ok ? Good stuff. What can I do to get to the same happy place you are in ?

I honestly have no clue. What architecture is your machine? Is it the tray application or the background service causing your issues?

If it’s the tray app, zerotier is also controllable via the command line.

As I posted above with the Windows version number this is stock Windows 10 64-bit.

Its the background service and it will not start at the command line or the services. Starting it in either fashion returns the WER null pointer errors I mentioned.

Is there any diagnostic mode for Zerotier to see what the issue is ?

Can nobody here help with this or am I on my own ?

You likely have something interfering with ZeroTier, but I have no idea what. nor how to tell from where I sit. I brought my blank Win10 VM up to date this morning and tried both 1.8.9 and yesterday’s 1.8.10 release and cannot reproduce your results at all. Everything just works.

“works for me” is not the best answer … is there no diagnostic for Zerotier ?

Any form of diagnostics built in won’t run if zerotier doesn’t run in the first place, as you report

@chris.j.slattery Can you send us one of these crash dumps for us to inspect? And, do you have any other VPN-ish software running on this system?

Yes, I can send a crash dump. Send me an email address.

No other VPN is active

I’ve sent you a crash dump sample. I can send lots more !

Hi any word on this please
